Zebras the relatives of horses having grey or black strips on overall white body are the animals that can be easily found in African countries such as Namibia, South Africa, Angola, Kenya and Ethiopia. They prefer to live in a place where they can easily get access to grass and an adequate supply of water. There are mainly three types of zebras and all these look really identical in terms of their body texture, color and size. The difference between these three types of zebras is only about where do zebras live and the answer is that they live at different places. One type of zebra wants to live on mountains and is known as a mountain zebras. Second type lives on plain, grassy lands and is called as Burchell's zebras. Third type of these animals is better known as Grevy's zebras. These zebras are the largest of all three types of the species.

This post shares the exact details about where do zebras live and has been written after extensive search and hard work. Zebras are fond of dry places and can be found in deserts of Africa very easily. Not only in deserts, zebras also prefer to live in open areas having green grass and water around. Besides grasslands and deserts, zebras can also be heavily found on various hilly areas of Africa.

Since zebras are favorite food of various animals like hyenas, lions, cheetahs, crocodiles, tigers, leopards and so on therefore they need some safe place to roam around without any threat and thus they are found in areas where they feel pretty comfortable and secure. In case of any attack, the zebra is not left alone on his own rather his family members try their every bit to save the life of the wounded zebra. They start moving round and round around the wounded zebra till the attacker leave hope and the place. Moreover, besides Africa zebras are also found in many zoos across the globe as well.

If you want to have a look on wild zebras, roaming here and there independently then you must visit somewhere in Africa to take a glance of these lovely and peaceful creatures. You may find them playing, enjoying with each other and moving on always in groups. You may never see any zebra alone, though exceptions are there but they always prefer to wander and live in herds.

No matter whatever the place is, where it is a mountain, a plain area or some desert, zebras are always in groups commanded by the male zebra. The male zebra is that's why called as stallion. In each group there is one stallion and various female zebras with the young zebras as well. The entire family keeps united even in the group as well. Also where do zebras live has a direct connection with their ages as well. The zebras that live in zoos comparatively have a larger life span as that of those that live wildly on their own. It is seen that in a zoo zebras can live to a maximum 40 years while this life period decreases to 20 or 30 years if they live outside the zoo.

Conclusively, it can be said that zebras are those social animals that make different groups to live and always find at places near or around water. They are very heavily dependent on water and thus cannot leave moist places. They love to remain in water holes throughout the day and night. Again the difference is about the type of zebra. The zebras that live in dry place obviously can move or survive without water and their bodies are used to such hot and humid atmospheres.

The mountain zebra likes to wander on the mountains eating the fallen fruits, leaves, grass and other plants of the hilly areas. The zebras that live on mountains and the Grevy's one are now termed as rare and seem to be vanishing with fast pace. The zebras of the third type that live on plains are still found heavily in green areas. This is because they cannot be hunted from some plain areas and can easily run far away from the attacker, while those that live on mountains have to face more hunters as well as extreme weather conditions that are contributing to the decline in their population so quickly.
